How we make money
Written out in full, because a marketplace that hides its fees has told you something about itself.
Customers — free
Browsing, booking, chatting and reviewing cost nothing. You pay the artisan for their work, and nothing to us.
The one exception is an emergency callout, which adds a ₦1,500 surcharge shown to you before you confirm.
Artisans — pay per completed job
- ₦1,000 lead fee, charged when a job completes — not when the lead arrives. A lead you decline, or one that falls through, costs you nothing.
- 8% commission on the job value. Whether the customer pays in the app or in cash makes no difference to what you are charged — only to how it is settled.
A ₦20,000 job
₦20,000 − ₦1,000 lead fee − ₦1,600 commission = ₦17,400 to you
Why it is set up this way
We only earn when an artisan earns. That is deliberate: charging for leads that go nowhere would make us money from sending you bad matches, and we would rather not build that incentive into the product.
No subscription and no listing fee — you only pay when work actually comes your way.
Security and privacy
You are being asked to let a stranger into your home and to move money. Here is exactly what protects you.
Verified identity
Artisans complete a government ID check and a selfie liveness check through Smile Identity before they can take work. Customers stay anonymous until they book.
We never hold your money
Card and transfer payments are handled by our licensed payment partners, Flutterwave and Paystack. Fix-am never sees or stores your card details — a payout to an artisan or a refund to you goes straight to a bank account through them, never sitting with us in between.
Only the data we need
Name, phone number and location — enough to match you with someone nearby and let them find you. We do not sell data, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
Money you can account for
Every movement of money is written to an append-only ledger, and an independent check runs nightly. If the numbers ever disagree, we find out before you do.
Questions people ask
Is Fix-am available on my phone?
Fix-am runs on Android and iPhone. you can install it from Google Play and the App Store, and there is a direct APK download for Android phones without Play Store access.
How do I know an artisan is really verified?
Verified artisans carry a badge on their profile. To earn it they submit a government ID and pass a selfie liveness check, which a person then reviews. You can also see their rating and how many jobs they have completed.
What if the artisan does not show up, or the work is bad?
If you paid through the app, the money sits in escrow and is only released when you confirm the job is done. If you are not happy, raise a dispute in the app before confirming — a human reviews the evidence from both sides and decides where the money goes, including a full refund where that is the right outcome.
Do I have to give out my phone number?
No. You chat inside the app, and you can call each other through the app as well — free, over the internet, with neither side seeing the other’s number. Your number stays private
What does it cost?
Free for customers. Artisans pay a ₦1,000 lead fee when a job completes — not when the lead arrives — plus 8% commission on the job value. Paying in cash rather than through the app does not change what the artisan is charged.
Can I book someone for today?
Yes, if someone nearby is free. Pick your preferred time when you book. For genuine emergencies there is a priority callout that alerts nearby artisans in turn until one accepts; it carries a surcharge, shown to you before you confirm.
I am an artisan — how do I join?
Install the app, sign up as an artisan, and upload your ID and a selfie for verification. Once a reviewer approves you, leads in your categories and service area start arriving. There is no subscription and no fee until a job completes.
Is my payment secure? Does Fix-am hold my money?
Payments are processed by our licensed payment partners, Flutterwave and Paystack — Fix-am never sees or stores your card details, and never takes custody of your money. Money paid into escrow is actually held by them until you confirm the work; once it is, the payout goes straight to the artisan's bank account and a refund goes straight to yours, never resting as a balance in the app. Every movement is recorded in a ledger that cannot be quietly edited.
